Photo taken at the abandoned Knox County Poorhouse by Bob Kueppers. Shot with a Canon 50D, 18-55mm lens, tripod, 3 exposures merged using Photomatix, color adjustments in Aperture. Built in 1878, this 40,000sf, four story tall building was at the time one of the largest buildings in the country. In 1953 the poorhouse was shut down only be be revived by a bible college then in the 1990's the old poorhouse turned into the House of Nightmares were it was a hunted house one month out of the year. In the early 2000's the hunted house was moved to a location in columbus because of the house being in disrepair. -Bob Kueppers

I shot this photo in the Thornton Park section of Orlando, Florida. The image is the result of 9 exposures, processed with Photomatix Pro. I used a Canon Rebel XTi camera, with a Sigma 10-20 zoom lens. ISO was 200, aperture was f9.0, and the lens was at 10mm focal length. A tripod was used. Exposures were from 1/400 of a second to 1/8 of a second. Post-processing was with Photoshop Elements. -Gerry Rosser

This is a house on a hill near our home in Olsbrucken, Germany. My first attempt at HDR photography, but I think I'll try playing with it a little more. This photo was taken in the middle of Tokyo (Ginza area) a few days ago. It had been raining all through the afternoon and dusk, when I took this shot. Even through the rain, I took my tripod out into the middle of the street to do my best to capture some of the amazing Tokyo scenery from the ground level. This was taken with a Nikon D3X, f/8, 19mm (Nikon 14-24mm lens), and ISO 100. There were 5 exposures from -2 to +2. I also have the full size at 5,900 pixels across that in case you want an extra-big wallpaper! -Trey Ratcliff

A lovely Saturday afternoon with the Canon T2i led me to Autzen Stadium here in Eugene, Oregon. Auto-bracketed shots, a little combination in qtpfsgui, and then some adjustments in Gimp let to what's attached. This is my first try at HDR, and doesn't look like entirely like unicorn explosions. Nikon d50 iso: 200 2.0 step auto bracket Took this shot in Toronto on top of a parking garage right after Earth Hour. The lights are just starting to return to the cn tower. If you look over the left edge you will see a ten story drop. I had to maneuver myself up onto this ledge with my tripod scared shitless, with that feeling that some invisible force was going to give me a little shove. -Ryan Emond

Please find attached my submission for the HDR challenge. It's the New York Flatiron building shot on the 04/23 with the Canon Rebel Xti using the Sigma 10-20 mm. The f was 4 for the 3 shots used and the exposure was 1/320s - 1/800s - 1/2000s It was combined using Photomatix and processed by Photoshop Elements -Sebastien

To get the shot I might have breached the security fence outside Paul Revere Park and temporarily declared myself "authorized personnel." I shot it the night of 4/24, around midnight, and this was the only shot I was able to get before my car got quite badly stuck trying to move to get a better angle - but I've made the best of what I got! (Suffice to say getting stuck was no small problem while trespassing on state property...) This is really my first attempt at HDR, I've played around with it a little bit in the past few weeks so I was excited when I was this come up. The image was taken at the lake down the street from my house with my canon 300D. ISO 100, this is a set of 3 exposures -3, 0, +3. taken with a 55mm prime lens with a polarization filter. I had walked down to get a shot of the sunset over the water but I liked the way the sun was setting through the trees. -Brian Moyno

This is a shot of the remains of a small pier at Rehoboth Beach, DE, about 10 minutes before sunrise. I used a Canon Digital Rebel XT and a Canon 24-105 L Lens @ 67 mm, mounted on a tripod. I used three images, ISO 200, aperture f/11, shutter times of 1/6, 1/25, 0.6 sec. I had the exposure compensation set to -1 to prevent the overexposed image from blowing out, so the exposure biases were -1, -3, +1. I created the HDR in Photomatix, then blended the HDR with the first exposure (which I bumped up to ev 0) to make the HDR a bit more subtle. -Joe Russo

Shot was taken crouching near this creek on the landscape setting. Shot with a Nikon D3000 with my 18-55mm Lens. ISO at 320 Focal Length at 32mm. This was taken on the St Mary's University Campus in the woods near the Frisbee Golf Course. St Mary's University is located in Winona, Mn right in between some beautiful bluffs and the elegant Mississippi river. I shot this in a friends garden, using a Panasonic LX3 in Auto mode ( 1/1000, f 4.0 and ISO 80 ). It was quite windy so I couldn't take 3 exposures, instead I used a single RAW and exposed it 3 times. I created the HDR using HDRtist and then cropped and tweaked the photo using Funtastic Photos. -Joy Sha

Combined with photomatix Jumped off the Q train on the way home tonight @ Prospect park to take a couple shots for the contest. All hand held, leaning against a column for support. Combined in Photomatix quickly - no cropping or other editing. Don't have the exact photomatix settings, but were something along the lines of: Strength: 76 Color Saturation: 100 Light Smoothing Low Luminosity -10 White point 2.09% Black point 6.76% Gamma 0.71 -David Roy

I shot this with a Nikon D80 and an 18-200mm lens. I saw how beautiful the clouds were and took these shots with a panorama head on a tridpod and using a remote release. I wanted to keep it natural looking, so did not merge a lot of exposures. Location: Playa Del Rey, California ISO=100 F29 1/160 on the first shot and the second. Used Photomatix to HDR and tone map and Photoshop to clean up the rest. -Sheri Determan

I used a Pentax K110 with an 18-55mm lens, Aperture Priority set to 9.0 to get me good depth of field, with an ISO of 800 and the thrre exposures of 1/125, 1/250, and 1/500. Its my first time submitting for the shooting Challenge, and my first attempt at HDR. I took this from inside an abandoned barn overlooking preservation land on the Long Island Sound. Its not the most dramatic, but I wanted to do something where it looks natural- how I saw it when I was there, but with more range then a camera normally can pick up. -Frank J. Varro

I used my Canon 450D (Digital Rebel XSi) with the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens. The three exposures were shot at -2, 0 and +2 - at f/8, ISO 100. I'm using a Gitzo Explorer tripod and a Giotto ball head. The 800px version was sharpened a little as it suffered a little from the size reduction. -Eivind K. Dovik

This is definitely not a very flashy example of HDR, but it does have a very wide dynamic range. The light bulb must be shot with a very fast exposure to avoid blown out hightlights. Heres a shot I grabbed today at the third annual Austin Psych Fest. I took it this evening and I apologize for it being a little late.
